I accidentally sprayed my trees & shrubs with herbicide 2,4-D. How can I reduce the damage?
Question:I immediately rinsed trees & shrubs with water, but 24 hrs later I am seeing "epinastic bending" or distorted leaves and bent stems.
Answers:
go out there now! and remove the branches that have been
sprayed! hitting them with water may have progressed the poison.
woopsey doo for you! lol! I dont know that the damage can be reversed except with rinsing with water and plant food...
I hate to say it, but there is a good chance your trees/shrubs won't make it. 2,4-D is a rough chemical, and chances are, your plants have already started metabolizing it if they are showing damage. I would say wait and see what happens. It may just defoliate your plants, but they could most definitly put out new leaves and be okay. The only thing you can really do now is wait and see what happens
this is a total guess if no one from chemistry responds. id try carbon ground to a dust form mixed with water and pour in on the effected soil to try to neutralize its active ingredients. for carbon id burn coal or something till its out . maybe even skip the mixing with water and just powder it on the affected areas then mist with water.one things 4 sure it cant hurt it.good luck. i think the water only idea may have backfired and sped the toxin to the roots. u need to neutralize the toxin, give it something to chew on other then your shrubs.
Check out 2-4-D I am aware that it only kills weeds such as in pastures right before planting. It should kill or really damage you trees and shrubs.
2-4 D or better known as Agent Orange in Vietnam is a fefoliant. I fear you may have damaged them beyond recovery..Only time will tell.. Oh 24d is a known cancer causing agent.. Many viet nam soldiers were dieing befor they left Viet Nam but did not know it...
If any of the plants you are speaking of are grape vines, sorry to say, they are gone. If they are big full healthy plants, I would only hope for the best. Copious amounts of water may flush the soil, but if the roots are really deep and established, that may do more harm than good. good luck
