Tall pines getting their needles and bits of branches chewed off by 1/2 inch black wormlike bug. Help!?

Is this worm in a big web that hangs from the tree branches? Are there hundreds of other worms just like it in the web? If so, I can't remember the name of it, but the only way to kill them is to burn the whole web before they totally kill your tree. Hope this helps!!
