Does human hair or excrement really keep deer away?

Question:I've done a fair amount of online research, and the concensus is that they do. Is the jury still out?

Answers:
It depends. I find it works in areas where the deer have less contact with people. If you live in a rural area it works great. The closer to a large city you are the deer may already be used to the scent.

Try the hair first. Good luck.

thats what I hear too. We have racoon problems with our gardens so we spread hair on them cuz my sister cuts hair for a living. It seems to keep them for eating the cucumbers and tomatoes, so i say deer might be the same way.
I work in a salon, one customer who lives out in the country comes in for the hair I save for her. She say's it really works. It must because she does make special trips in to collect the bag of hair I save for her. Try it and see if it works for you.
Human hair has been said to work to keep animals away, but this is not a one time application. Exposed to the elements it will loose it's effectiveness, just like many of the other natural repellents. Hair is high in nitrogen, so when you replace it you can add the old hair to your garden soil where it will act as a slow release form of nitrogen.

I would avoid human excrement because you are introducing pathogens to your garden soil, and besides, it's just gross.
