What's Wrong With My Orange Tree?
Question:My orange tree normally produces 12-14 dozen oranges every year. This year it had no blossoms on it. None. The tree looks healthy. This winter was colder than normal. The temperature wasn't unusually cold, but we had more consecutive days when the temp got got down to 25. The neighbor behind me had lots of blossoms on his orange tree. Should I call a tree care service or just and see what happens next spring?
Answers:
Sometimes orange trees can be that way. Just be sure you have not changed anything. Different fertilizer? different water schedule ? Something happen near by that changed something? Check for bugs? It is probably the odd weather. You may get some late blossoms. Some late fruit.
Wait and see what happens next year.
Nor sure about where you live, but here in Pennsylvania we had a very late frost - this killed many of the leaf and flower buds on the trees that had emerged from dormancy, so it is very possible that the flower buds were killed oft this year. Half the trees in my neighborhood are half bare of leaves as a result and half of my parents Dogwood was killed bythis late frost.
So long as the tree looks healthy, i would not worry and would wait to see what happens next year.
