No bloom in my seperated Iris bulbs?
Question:They were overcrowded and I seperated them some of them blossomed some didnt why didnt they?
Answers:
An Iris needs to have three different growths to bloom. Each year, the bulb will grow two new growths.
however, if you split them into individuals or doubles, they will not usuallu bloom the first year, but will bloom after that.
For this reason you should never split an Iris into less then a clump of three.
dont worry about it, they should all bloom next year.
Great advice from Urbanbulldogge but also remember that Iris bloom best if the rhizome (the large root like structure) is just below soil level. Most of the Iris I've grown bloom best even if part of the rhizome is right above soil level. Good luckl
they won't bloom the first year of transplanting - I just had that problem till this year.
