Chipmunks problem?
Question:how do you get rid of chipmunks? thay are taking over my back yard.
Answers:
Oh man. YEAH they're cute. Until they dig all the sand from under your perennial garden, pulling it through a hole in the stone retaining wall you built to hold the garden in place, piling the sand on your driveway, KILLING all your bulbs and half your perennials, and then start digging through your newly planted vegetable garden. They have a system of tunnels through my front yard. There is a pair of holes under the bird feeders... it goes who knows where. I've tried a lot of things.
Cleaning up areas helps. Keeping your garage closed so they don't have a handy shelter in the winter helps. Cats help. Mine are not outdoor but the neighborhood has a few, thankfully. The other day I saw a hawk take a chipmunk from my back yard. I'm thinking... can I attract more hawks? It's either that or I knit the little critters jackets and call them pets.
It *is* frustrating.
I have dusted plants I want to keep safe with cayenne pepper. They don't like that. There's also commercial stinky stuff for bulbs. Hot Pepper Wax has helped some, and it's an organic item.
Good luck.
I dont leave any food out of my Chip/ and Dale
they have been in residence here for over 10 years I've been told
I actually enjoy watching them ( as) long as they dont somehow ever get into my home
then? I'd have to kill them
Well, aren't YOU a curmudgeon?!
Chipmunks are the cutest little rodents you would ever want to see. But you can DISCOURAGE them from living on your property just like any other rodent, by getting a cat.
A mature rescue one from an animal shelter would be a good idea. Make sure that you keep it healthy with regular vet care though.
Get a dog and a cat. Keep the leaves and twigs raked up. I live in semi arid region. Chipmunks find those favorable conditions compared to a well watered green grass sort of place.
