What criteria should you use to pick someone to trim my tree?

Question:I have a tree in my front yard that took some damage near the main trunk due to cicadas a couple of summers ago, and has now grown out over the roof of my house and is rubbing the shingles and fireplace. I need to find someone to trim it back for me, but what is the best way to pick a reliable company to do this work for me? How do I go about finding the right company to do the job with the least risk to my house and tree?

Answers:
check your yellow pages for a company that has been around for a while...have them come out and give you an estimate, ask them for customer referrals and MOST important..make sure they are insured!! ask for a copy of their insurance certificate...some fly-by-night places will just tell you they have insurance when in reality they don't...you certainly don't want some guy falling out of your tree and getting hurt...then suing you!

Dude get a chain saw and do it! If your afraid of heights go to your local bar find a guy that will work for beer. I’d do it for a twelve pack.
most any co. in the phone book should be reliable. best to cheapest would be - arborist , tree service ,landscaper ..i'm curious. what kind of damage do cicadas cause, and what kind of tree isit?
