New sod with mushrooms?!?!?
Question:2 weeks ago we had sod put in our backyard. Of course we have been watering it non stop for it to root. We have noticed though we now have tons of mushrooms sprouting up from the new sod. Is this common? Did we have bad sod installed? How do we rid the backyard of the mushrooms now? We have a 12 month old and I can already forsee having to say no a millon times or having her eat one. Any advice would be great. Thanks

Fungus (mushrooms) bloom when there is a lot of heat and water.. it's July, so that means lots of heat. you're watering, so lots of water... that's a formula for fungal bloom...
The mushrooms are a sign of a good thing.. decomposition of organic matter in your soil. The fungus is returning organic matter to the soil, enriching it with nutrients..
As far as the mushrooms go.. pick 'em. throw them in a plastic bag and put them out with the trash. once the fungal bloom is done, you won't see them again for a long time. You're just gonna have to tell your daughter that they are icky and can make her sick.. If you haven't learned by now, you're still going to have to tell her "no" a million times.. kids are just that way.
and No.. I don't think you got bad sod.
Try cutting back on the water to just morning only. That should take care of the mushrooms. As far as the young one??
If I were you, I'd go to Home Depot or Lowe's and get a fungicide. Just follow the directions on whatever product you purchase. Those spores from the mushrooms can spread and even get on tree trunks, etc--thus infecting them as well. If possible get the head off with a baggie and get rid of them. Then the spores won't lie dormant--but a fungicide is your best bet. Mushrooms are toxic.
Keep the baby out of the yard for a couple of days.
