Are my grape vines dead?

Question:I bought two grape vines from a large home improvment store. They had no growth on them at all, just the woody stem. Is this a live grape plant? They have been planted for about three weeks, and have not given any growth yet. Any ideas?

Answers:
You have possibly bought some expensive dead sticks. You should be able to judge whether they were alive when you planted them by looking at the root system. Be patient.

I would give it a little more time, depending on where you live (e.i. northern states, canada etc.) it may still be alright. Grapes look dead when they are dormant, so get used to seeing them like that in the winter, even when they are perfectly okay.

Note: it is about the time of year for you to see growth, though, so if you see no green coming on close to when your return date is up at the store, i would consult them or take them back for a replacement or refund.
just scrape the stem if its green inside the its still alive give it more time.
