What can I plant in a 10 foot long, 1 foot deep brick flowerbed?

Question:We don't have rain gutters, and the flowerbed is right beneath the roof, so it get hit with the water that comes off the roof when it rains. Any plant suggestions for this scenerio?

Answers:
You could get creative and make a small rock garden. Cover the dirt with weed blocking material (or wet newspaper) and put 2 or 3 inches of pea gravel over that. In one corner put a water fountain and scatter some small dwarf shrubs and alpines. Not too many as you want the rocks to show. Also you could place a few larger rocks that have unusual characteristics. In my backyard is a rock garden and every time I go somewhere I have never been I bring back a rock to put back there.

I just don't think typical flowers will work being right under the rain gutter. Good luck.

I think the rock garden is a great idea. Perhaps also growing something on a trellis on the wall, with rocks as mulch.

As I recall, I once lived in a house that had a gutterless area and juniper bushes were able to handle the deluge.
