Would a new manual reel mower work alright on a weedy lawn?
Question:My lawn has a lot of grass, dandelions, violets, wild strawberry plants, forget-me-nots and a ton of other things that shouldn't be growing on my lawn. Would a manual reel mower still work alright on my lawn?
Answers:
Only if the yard was very, very small. If it is .20 acre or more as most suburban lots, a bag of weed killing fertilizer and an electric or gas mower would be more effective.
I tried a manual reel mower and sold it after 1 attempt.
From past experience, trust me, for lawns with lots of weeds dont waste your money on a reel type mower. This type of mower is used for tall grasses like fescue. (golfing grass).
No! I bought a manual reel mower for the small isolated portions of my property, and if the grass isn't standing straight up, IT WONT CUT IT. I ended up weed wacking those areas. Crab Grass, Dandelions, and other ground cover vertical growing stuff will get suked up by the power mowers vacum effect. A reel mower just cuts whats in front of it. so if you don't have the perfect lawn (which i don't have that kind of time for). Get rid of the weeds! hire a greens keeper from a golf course, or if it's a small area, with a little practice...you'll do well with a weed wacker. good luck!
