Can anyone tell me; what has happened to all of the Hummingbirds?
Question:I live in the Kansas City area and always put out feeders. This year they appeared early in April stayed for a while, then disappeared, I haven't seen any for weeks now.

Did you keep your humming bird feeders filled and change the nector every 2-3 days? If humming birds find a feeder empty more then twice they may not return to it again. Also if you do not change the nector out it can turn bad and cause the humming birds to become sick.
Saw one in mid-May , that's it . Have a lot of their favorite plants , a lot of 'em , & all season (April - Sept ) . Lots of Beebalm , & Touch-Me-Not (weeds) now, with Lobelia & Joe-Pye Weed just starting. A neighbor saw one here , last week , when I wasn't home . Other than that, nothing . I'm in S. Central NY , (Broome Co. ) ~ 5mi from PA line (Susquehanna Co.) . I know of one person that has normal amount, 2 pairs.Everybody else is wondering .
Ps . You're better off with plants, not feeders, if possible, because of problems Butterfly mentioned .
We had the same problem, but we took the feeder down, and cleaned it well. We made fresh nectar and put in it, and today, as I was leaving for work, there were two hummers taking turns at the feeder. Well..fighting over it I should say, but they were back!
I live in Northern Minnesota and in the last couple years I have noticed a disturbing trend in the aggressiveness of a couple hummingbirds. Its to the point where only a few come to my feeders now, where I used to get a wide variety in shapes and colors. The hummingbirds who hang out now, often "chase" other hummingbirds away and I never see those ones again.
I have a friend who put out a feeder and had several hummingbirds coming around, then a couple years later the city made a garden out of a vacant lot a couple doors down from her house and she only gets a couple visits from hummingbirds now.
I'm in NE Texas. They only started hanging out at my feeders the last couple of weeks. Way later than normal. There were a few earlier, but now I'm filling the feeders every couple of days. My hubby thinks it's because it's rained so much and been cooler this year, and has just started getting hot.
The must be at my house. I live in Pennsylvania and I've seen more this year than ever before. There enough that I see them chasing each other away for territorial reasons. They are at the feeder constantly. :)
