Who knows about holly bushes?
Question:If I plant about six or seven in a thirty foot area, do I need more than one male plant, or will one male "service" all the ladies?
Answers:
one will do fine! and it can be up to 500 to 1000 meters away! if u have a male that close it'll be fine!
" ... one needs to plant at least one male in the home landscape to pollinate all of the females if you like the red berries to form on the bushes."

Interesting the rest of this article regarding specific male to females for pollination:
Female varieties:
Oistevik (mature height 6 feet)
Red Sprite (mature height 3 feet)
Male varieties:
Late Male (to Oistevik)
Jim Dandy (to Red Sprite)
The male plants will need to be planted at a ratio of one male to six female; for good pollination and good berry production.
The "Oistevik" is best pollinated by "Late Male."
The "Red Sprite" is best pollinated by "Jim Dandy"
One will do it. All that needs to happen is for the bees and other pollenators to visit the male and the females on the same trip to your yard. Generally, they will hit up all the avilable flowers in an area beore going "home".
