I have holes in the ground about the size of Quarters, what could it be?
Question:In my backyard, I found many holes about the size of quarters or little bigger and I have never had that before. Could it be an animal such as mice? or is it because the ground is too dry and something is making it automatically? Or a snake?

Do you have squirrels or chipmunks in your area? I just had a few holes like this in my garden and I think its from a family of chipmunks that hang around waiting for peanuts or the squirrels that chase them away.
Sounds like you have moles..
Most likely a frog or a snake.
its the mexicans airing out your lawn. it is nothing abnormal. it is actualy good for your lawn
It could be cicadas.
Squirrels are looking for their nuts that they stored, perhaps? Walnuts are roughly the same diameter as a quarter.
SNAKES! I must say it probably is...
It could be a snake..but probably not if there are a lot of them. Most likely mole crickets. They drill holes in the ground and you will see kinds of "plugs" that were in the holes. I live in Florida and I get those a lot. Look for a lawn pest killer at the hardware store that defends your lawn from and kills mole crickets. If they dont go away...it's something else :). hope this helps.
Sounds like a snake to me. It sounds too small to be anything else.
Good Luck getting rid of whatever it is!
Cicadas? In parts of the US the 17yr Cicadas are emerging.
Could be a squirrel or skunk looking for grubs. how deep are the holes?
My best guess would be a mole... their holes are about that size. You might want to call a rodent control company get their thoughts on the matter.
It could be snakes they make holes about that size.
Is it in the mulch or soft soil? If you do not see large tunnels (like mores make) then it could be chipmunks/ground squirrels. Snakes do not make holes. If it's near a lake or river bank it could also be crawdads.
It's toad. I have them in my yard at the base of the exterior walls and edge of driveway.
There are only two possibilities.1.)Bees love two make underground nest.-If so start a car or loud noise wait a nd see if so then call exterminater.2.)any other small animal-highly unlikly a snake ince they are cold blooded,(the cold of the ground would take the energy of the snake and then kill the snake.)Agian call ext.
It could be bees who make their holes in the ground. My son got stung by a bee when he curiously watched a small hole in the ground.
Yellowjacket nests in the ground near your home must be destroyed. It's easy to find the nest-look for hovering 'scout' wasps guarding a little hole in the ground that lots of yellowjackets are flying in and out of. (It's easiest to spot them in the middle of the day.) Don't get too close during daylight hours, though-they'll come after you.
You have a yard full of chipmunks. They will chew off your plant roots till your yard is dead. We had them in Pennsylvania. They are nasty little creatures that will put seeds and nuts in your house between the walls and kill the yard. Don't use poison because if they get in the house and die the smell is awful. Try traps or use what your lawn and garden place recommends. maybe they will sell you a deterrent to chase them away. Good luck.
It could be squirrels (tree squirrels or chipmunk ground squirrels) digging where they think acorns might be buried. If they annoy you get a Hav-a-Hart live trap and relocate the trapped rodents away from there.
I believe Maria is right on this one. Sounds like moles. I know from experience in my own yard.
it could also be cicada's (not sure on the spelling) this particular batch comes out every 17 years and this so happens to be the year. by us in Wisconsin, particularly walworth county they're expected to be around 1 million per acre...YUCK!
they are the bugs that make the high pitch noise when it is hot and humid outside...kinda sounds like electricity running through the wires.
I live in Missouri. Here we have wolf spiders that make a hole that size. Crawdads may be another source, but that sounds too small, plus there would be a mound of mud to one side of the hole. Pull up a lawn chair, get yourself a glass of tea, and wait him out.
