Is there any chemicals out there that will kill a large trees leaves?

Question:i have an inground pool and i have a big older tree that blocks all the sun, throws leaves in the pool al the time...big hassle...is there some sort of spray or something that will kill all the leaves on the tree, besides just cutting it down..(its a huge tree)//any idea's ?

Answers:
all u have to do is get u a bottle of "weed-b-gone MAX" concentrate... DO NOT dilute it, and just pour it at the base of the tree! the tree will soak up the stuff thinking it's water and in a few days u will start to see the effects....in a week or two..one dead tree! works everytime. i usually use it on stumps but it'll work on full grown trees as well! good luck

drill 1 inch holes all around the trunk
lots and lots of holes

the tree will surely die

the tree may fall over in time and hit something though
I'm sorry, there are no easy answers to this.
As a tree and nature lover,I could suggest that you rip out your pool and leave the poor big old tree alone.
But I know you don't like that answer.:)
Yes there are defoliants (remember Agent Orange?)
but they're illegal.especially in residential areas.
Besides, for a large tree, the resulting drift of the spray
would kill every plant or tree in the immediate neighborhood.
Might cost you a fortune in lawsuits plus you'll be charged.

You could use a soil solution to kill the roots,
but again, your contaminating the soil and also again,
surrounding areas will be killed when the solution migrates
through the soil to neighboring areas, resulting in lawsuits
and possibly criminal charges.

Your best bet is to get an arborist and cut the tree down
or cut the branches into the "dead" zone, meaning:
no dormant buds are present on the branches.
Only valid for trees that exhibit this.
Some trees will resprout from a bare trunk.
Sorry, but you don't have too many options.
Cross Bow will kill any foliage it hits. It'll kill the tree, if you spray it on often enough, too. But the foliage will die in just a couple of days. It might take longer for the dead leaves to fall off completely though.

By the way, playing with chemicals is dangerous. Wear a mask, and know that the Cross Bow will also kill any other woodsy plants it drifts onto. It won't hurt the grass, however. It will kill flowers though.

It's on the shelf a few feet away from the Round Up, nation wide.
