Artificial grass in doggie potty area...?

Question:There is some great looking artificial turf available these days. I am wondering if anyone with dogs has used it? I have a small area with dead grass that the dogs use just potty time. I would like to replace it with artificial grass but I'm wondering if there are unforeseen problems with this? I was also thinking about decomposed granite but I do not want the mess of them tracking it into the house. Thanks for your input.

Answers:
most animals do not like "fake" grass. if this is a problem, try giving you dog some tomatoe soup! the acid in the tomatoes breaks down the substance in a dogs urine!! about 1/2 cup daily for a large dog! adjust this for smaller dogs. also if you really want to just "do away" with the grass, try sand! most dogs will use it, and the sand absorbs the moisture! of course then you have a daily job of poop picking, but since it's on top of the sand, it's easy to see and dispose of.

believe it or not but my neighbors use the green outdoor carpet for their dogs and replace every so often. I couldn't believe it. What about using sod and replacing it after a few months. It's readily available if you are in the south.
I used large rounded gravel for the area. Easy to clean up and the dogs didn't mind at all.
