What is the best, fairly fast growing, bush for making a natural( without a trellis) archway arbor?
Question:
Answers:
Carolina Jessamine and Confederate Jasmine are both evergreen blooming vines that are vigorous growers. The Carolina Jessamine blooms a very fragrant yellow bloom in early spring and the Confederate Jamine blooms a very fragrant white star shaped bloom in early to mid summer. I would plant both for extended color and fragrance.
The others stated in your other answer are also excellent, but will lose their leaves in the winter, but could also be planted with the two I have mentioned to REALLY give you an awesome display of color!
Hope this helps! Good Luck!
lilac, wisteria, clematis. anything like this will grow tall but it is like tomatoes, you need to have a "stake" for it to grow upwards. i have wisteria that grows up the side of my house and along the front of my porch. if you take the time as it grows to wind it or point it where you want it to grow, it will. and it will come back every year. if this is something or the entrance way of your home, be aware that bees will come and stay. lilac bushes can be pruned and shaped into whatever you would like if you spend time on them.
Plant 2 Leland Cypress, 1 each on either side of the path at your designated archway. Depending on your soil, they can grow an average of 2'-5' in a year. When they reach at least 6 feet, take the tops and tie together over the center of your path, using twine or jute, or finer wire that won't cut into the stalk. In no time you'll have your natural archway arbor, without a trellis.
