Brown Mushrooms on new Sod ?
Question:I have moved into a new home conplex and had sod put in a few days ago after a few days of watering in the morning and afternoon and a one time use of Miracle-gro Liquafeed I have noticed small brown mushrooms have started growing on the lawn in random patches does anyone know how to get rid of these mushrooms? I heard it maybe due to overwatering but the builder told us to water it everyday for two weeks in the morning and afternoon...
Answers:
mushrooms are fungi which could have came in the sod or the ground under the sod if they are watered regularly watering once a day is plenty if you have a automatic system night time is the best to keep it from evaporating, 2 inches during the day is equal to 1 inch at night just remember watering too much will cause the roots to stay close to the top if the ground causing you to have to water more regularly. once your yard becomes established watering twice a week is fine however when irrigating a field of Bermuda grass every 10 days is optimal. if you mow over the mushrooms they probably wont come back
It's most likely overwatering, but you need to get enough water on it to get it well-established. They will go away once you stop watering so frequently. Early early morning is the best time to water, not at night. Also, you shouldn't need to put any kind of fertilizer or treatments on new sod, not until next year, or fall at the earliest.
You are doing good, don't worry about the mushrooms, when you reduce watering, they will go away and don't hurt anything until then.
