What could be eating my flowers?
Question:Second floor balcony, something is eating the tops off of the flowers. Is it some type of bird? Chipmunk? Roof Rat? We had a cabbage out there last fall/winter, it got huge and it was totally stripped clean, eaten alive in one night. What could be doing this? Its flowers and ornamental grass this summer, no cabbage.

This happened to me in my herb garden. It's also on a second floor balcony. It turned out that moths had laid eggs in one of my plants & the caterpillars were eating my garden. They stripped my entire dill plant & killed it in one day. I discovered them & picked them off & everything else is fine now. You have to keep watch for a while as they keep hatching.
small snails were eating mine and the leaves. since you live on a balcony I am not sure, unless they were in the plant when you bought them.
ask your local florist or the guys at Home Depot/Lowes to see what you can spray on them to keep them less munchy.
snails could do it. amazingly, ants could probably do that too. it's unbelievable how quickly they can take something down. how about mice/rats or squirrels?
