Is it okay to plant trees in the summer months...?
Question:...or is it too hot? If I plant in June or July, what extra steps need to be taken? I am in southern Ontario.
Answers:
Its recommend to plant trees in the spring or fall although you certainly can plant them in the summer. You just have to make sure you water them often. The best way to do this is just to place a trickling house next a bit away from the truck and leave it running for about an hour a day. Putting the flow of water away from the tree will train the roots to go out and down. Just make sure you soak it long enough to be able to soak deep into the soil were the roots are.
Okay, it depends on the type of tree. Most often it would be best to plant one in late spring early summer. Make sure that it gets enough water and nutrients which should be pretty easy. Again, depending on the tree, it could grow really fast and you'll know that it's fine but there is always the chance that it grows slow and is less noticeable or it may die because there aren't enough nutrients.
But I'm sure it'll be fine and good luck!
it really isn't the best decision to plant a tree this late in the year.. it could have a chance of dying.. the ground is too dry.. maybe you should wait until next spring to plant it.. that way it'll defintately be healthy,...
I wouldn't recommend planting it in summer, it can't get enough water especially if it has to compete with other more established plants/trees anywhere near it. If you have to water it often then it will send roots near to the surface of the ground, because this will be the regular source of water for it. However if you plant at the beginnng of autumn then it will get plenty of water/rain which will seep down into the soil and so the tree will put down longer stronger roots which will help the plant grow and stay upright in any strong winds and by next summer the tree will be established with its deeper roots and won't need to rely on surplus watering from you so much as it will take its moisture from deep down where the sun hasn't baked the soil dry. Good luck with your tree and let us know which type you are planning to plant.
its ok. just water a lot
Probably it gets a lot of stesses from planting in hot summer month, but I believe you can still plant it. Make sure you water, water and water lots! Do not let roots to dry out. If you can wait a few more months until cooler weather comes(but not cold), you should wait. The thing is, to give your tree roots some time to grow and thrive during the warm season, but summer hot weather halts to do it. That's why in early spring is the best time for planting trees. I bet your summer is on the cool side, so I would say ok to do it. Just don't forget to water!
