Is the fruit on a mulberry tree always edible or are there varieties that are not.?
Question:I recently discovered that I have a mulberry tree. I plan to use the berries in baking, etc. I thought I should ask this question first as I know very little about it. Is the fruit on a mulberry tree always edible?
Answers:
the mulberry trees we have in this state... i've never heard of eating the fruit. It's mainly for the birds. I don't think it's safe for humans.
"Mulberry (Morus) is a genus of 10–16 species of deciduous trees native to warm temperate and subtropical regions of Asia, Africa and North America, with the majority of the species native to Asia.
The closely related genus Broussonetia is also commonly known as mulberry, notably the Paper Mulberry Broussonetia papyrifera.
Mulberries are fast-growing when young, but soon become slow-growing and rarely exceed 10-15 m tall. The leaves are alternately arranged, simple, often lobed, more often lobed on juvenile shoots than on mature trees, and serrated on the margin. The fruit is a multiple fruit, 2-3 cm long. Mulberries begin as white to pale yellow with pink edges. They are red when ripening. A fully ripened mulberry is dark purple to black, edible, and sweet with a good flavor in several species."

i think it depends on u'r type of mulberry tree. I was also told to take the stems & put them on u'r coals while cooking. It gives it a great flavor. sooo
The White Mulberry fruits have a bland flavour. The leaves are the food for silk worms. Black Mulberry is the one for fruit. Can take upto ten years to fruit, get a 3-5year-old tree. Fairly tolerant, but will thrive best in rich, fertile, well-drained soil.
