What kind of vine would be climbing my chimney (it doesn't look like ivy) and it has a nasty smell?

Question:The stuff has a very nasty smell when you trim it and it where it attaches to the brick there are brownish grass like things that are hard to get off.

It doesn't matter what it is. Get it off. The sticker things will deteriorate the mortar and you'll have a really BIG problem.
