What is the gardening chemical that brings earthworms to the surface?

Question:i have seen people pour some type of chemical on the ground and the earthworms come crawling out and they collect them to fish with them. just wondering what exactly it is.

Answers:
Are you sure it is a chemical and not just water. When the ground is wet earthworms move to the surface to breath. I've never heard of a chemical. My grandfather had a thumper that would bring them up. I remember it being really cool to feel the vibrations under my feet. I think there is also something that produces an electrical charge in the soil that will bring them up as well, but I can't imagine a chemical.

I have seen people use the chemical you are talking about but I don't know what its called. However, if you want to get some worms on a smaller scale try a good squirt of regular dish washing liquid in a gallon of water and pour it on the ground. Doing this at night gets better results but will work during the day.
Electricity! I had a friend who made his own "prod" that he stuck into the ground and it made the earthworms (night crawlers) come to the surface. I don't remember how he made it, but the main ingredient was electricity. I have also seen something similar in catalogs.
