How to tell if im over watering my plant? 2 Months old...?

Question:Its in the sun, and i try to water it whenever I think it needs it, all i do is put my finger in the soil and if its dry i water it. The stem that its growing from, the top is turning reddish.

Answers:
If the growth is turning red and it is not a red plant (i.e., not supposed to turn red), the cause it too much sun, not a water issue.

Plants get sun burned, just like peole do. They will turn red in order to protect themselves - this is natural.

This is fime for some plants and bad for others, check to see if your plant is supposed to be in full sun or partial sun. If it is supposed to be in partial sun transplant it if you can, if not ry to cover it - cheese cloth a foot or so above will work to break the light up and prevent burning.

If it is a full sun plant, then dont worry, it will be fine. Many plant turn red in full sun and are supposed to.

As for watering, you should probably water about twice a week. While the method you are using is not a bad one, it is not infallable as the soil can be damp further down - you can use a wooden chopstick or skewer to test instead of your finger.

Good luck

You don't say what kind of plant it is which would help determine the amount and frequency of watering. Some plants actually have red stems. See what I mean? Tell me more and maybe some of us can help you. If I don't know how to take care of a plant, my mom does.
first of all check to see if it needs direct sunlight, that could be causing the leaves to turn. also for my plants good rule of thumb is to water ( for a new plant ) every 3 - 4 days, depending on humidity, if its dryer you may need to water a little more often. then you can start to taper off and only water about once a week. i also use miracle grow plant food, it helps with nutrients, also the bigger the plant gets if you notice its not growing more it should be transplanted into a bigger pot because it becomes root bound, and will not grow bigger until it has a space needed.. hope this helps you out
