Yes!
My auntie grows them in her yard in California! Aloe vera plants can be used as both a medicine and as food. Theyre really healthy both to your diet and to your body. My auntie use to slice the aloe vera plants and lay them on my face to calm my acne. Like a facial but much more simple. :D

I am a nurse in Suffolk-England have been growing aloe vera for years mainly because I enjoy looking the plants on my window sill, but if I burn myself whilst cooking I pull a bit off split it open, rub the gel over affected area, pop in a poly bag and stick it in the fridge. I then re-apply about every hour. It takes away the pain every time.

my dad has a very large one in the yard, the pieces were wider than my hand from tip of finger to wrist. We have always used aloe for burns and rashes. I am deathly allergic to ant bites, but aloe saves me all the time( I can't help but play outside)
I have no success with aloe lol---my mom however, has these incredibly HUGE aloe veras.
I am good at killing them off lol
