How long can seeds be in water?

Question:I clipped ends on Morning Glory Seeds and put in warm water overnight. I had a bit of an emergency come up and they have now been in the water 4 days. They have sprouted and are very soft. Can I still plant these or are they no good now?

Answers:
take them out of the water and lay on a paper dry towel while you prepare your soil. Planting isn't tricky. but the depth isn't crucial, just so the roots can get hold and there's some dirt to keep the moisture on. But if you really want a number, 1/2", give or take. It will seem like they're not coming up. It will take a couple of weeks, maybe more. And then they'll all seem to come up at once, cracking the ground. The seedlings look like two squarish leaves. They poke through leaf-first and then open.

If they've sprouted they are fine, just plant them loosely in dirt and they should grow just fine.
Yes you can plant them now. I don't know how much longer they are good in water after starting to sprout. But now would be a good time to plant them,
Go ahead and plant, as you have nothing to lose! They are sprouting, so they want to grow. Your challenge would be rot, and the sooner the better to get them planted. Put in good moist soil and go for it! They should set roots and continue on. You might lose a few, but not all if you plant now.
