What do you do to get rid of bad weeds on your lawn and keep it beautiful?

Question:

Answers:
That is going to depend on the type of weed(s) and the overall health of the lawn.

Short term you are going to want to go to your local garden center or home center and purchase a weed killer that will not harm the grass. A common mistake is that lot of people will kill the weed and the grass at the same time. Another option, again depending on the type of weed is to pull it out.

Long term you need to start thinking about promoting the overall health of the lawn which will minimize weeds. This means fertilizing the lawn which will nourish the lawn and you will apply a weed inhibitor throughout the year. Again, your local garden center can help here and recommend the right products or you can pay and have a service do it for you. Is your soil compacted not allowing the grass to grow properly, then you may need to aearate the lawn. Is your lawn spread thin or have bare spots? then maybe you should reseed the lawn in the fall or spring if other problems like bugs or disease is not present. Is your lawn getting enough water? If not then you need start watering the lawn. Its lot of hard work and demands patience but if you concentrate on a healthy lawn then in time the weed problem will be minimize and you will have a beautiful lawn.

get weed killer that comes in granuals
I use Scotts Weed and Feed. They also have other formulations for specific weeds. After that, you can use a turf builder. You can use other Brands too.Their formulations are prety much the same, just check the side panel for contents and percentage of each ingredient.Good Luck.
Use something like Scott's lawn fertilizer with Halts and follow the directions carefully. Best to apply in spring and fall. It should handle most lawn weeds.
IN rare cases, some really tough weeds require treating with Tri-Mec, a strong chemical that will kill weeds but is not supposed to harm grass. If you must use it, handle it and mix it very carefully according to it's directions and spray it on weeds when there is no wind. Use rubber gloves and try to avoid breathing any vapors.
Otherwise, water the lawn a lot, and the best tip of all -- make sure your grass is about 2 and a half inches tall AFTER cutting.
Mow the grass often, before it gets real long, and you should have a real thick lawn in weeks!
I spot treat the weeds with weed-b-gone spray. I fertilize in the fall and spring with controlled release fertilizer.
We use turf builder. It kills weeds, feeds your lawn and makes it very green.

Note: you will have to mow a little more often because of how healthy you lawn will be.
The best thing I have ever used is Scott's Weed and Feed. You put it down with a broadcast spreader about every two months in the summer, starting when you first need to mow your lawn. It kills all the weeds in your lawn and also has the fertilizer for a spectacular looking lawn. Our went from scraggily, full of weeds to green and georgeous in only two seasons.
Tractor Supply Co. have a type of weed killer that they guarantee will kill the weeds but will not kill the grass or your flowers. I'd recommend using that.
One thing I don't think anyone else said was when you mow your grass don't mow to low. If you do this and then you hit a dry spell this will cause your grass to die faster and give a spot for weeds to come in. Mow at a higher level and this will help keep your lawn full and healthy.
