Mowing question?
Question:How do you make the X design in your lawn? Can you do it with a push mower?
Answers:
Yes, you can, but not as well defined as the major league ballparks or golf courses do. The reason theirs is so distinct, is that they are mowing them with "reel" mowers. These mowers have the ability to mow "patterns" on turf, such as squares, diamonds and stripes. Behind each vertical cutting blade there is a set of rollers which flatten down the mowed grass, causing it to look lighter and darker with every other mowing pass. You can mow in these patterns with your rotary mower, but you just can't get the real defined color pattern. First off, you need to make sure the blade is sharp and not "shredding" the blades. It should be cutting the tops cleanly. To get the square pattern, mow the entire lawn area up and down first, and then mow across the pattern the second time opposite angle to the first. To get the diamonds, mow the first cut diagonal on the lawn in a 45 degree angle, then mow the second cutting in the opposite 45 degree angle. The stripping is just that, mow in one direction all the way through the lawn only once. Your lawn should be healthy and green to see the patterns at their best.. Hope this answers your question...

Sure, why not? Draw it on a piece of paper then get to it.
yes, you just mow your lawn diagonally one way, then do it the other
yeah, first mow diagonally in one direction, then go back in the opposite. your footprints will fade unless your lawn is wet
yes you can , all you do is change the height of the blade....
You have to have a cool season grass like rye, bluegrass, or fescue. Your best bet, if you live in Okla. is to overseed your bermuda with rye this fall and mow with a reel mower.
