I'm bored with our garden.?

Question:There's a small veg patch, a square of spindly lawn with a flower border and high hedge and a patio with mouldy old cement. Not much cash, so anyone got any ideas how to make it more interesting on a budget?? I'm thinking of putting up a piece of trellis to block out the view of the dustbin etc...what can I plant to go up it that'll be low maintenence and look good?

Answers:
Hi! I had the same problem about a year ago. I really wanted our garden to look nice, especially since we have a lot of space and we would be able to. We also had a cement patch, but with the help of my mom, we covered it nicely. We can't put flowers directly over it due to some looong problem, so this is what we did:
We got some big gravel and laid it on top of the cement. We then got colorful ground stones and sprinkled them over the gravel (green to blend in the garden). We planted colorful flowers in two pots and put them on each side. And viola, much prettier! Best bet for you would be to put some climbing plants along it. Climbing geraniums are pretty low maintanence, but I can't guarantee because mine aren't very successful in blooming!!

I also planted lots of flowers along the sides of the house. Don't be disappointed though, because flowers do die by season. But do try, it really makes your garden look alive and lovely. Roses don't require so much water, but to need pruning and trimming. Cacti are great, there are quite a few that bloom flowers, and are very low maintanence. =]

If you want to improve your lawn, like we did, go buy some more soil and more seeds, and just sprinkle it along your lawn. Your exsisting grass will eat up the seeds and make your lawn greener and fuller. It does require lots of water though, so kep that in mind, if you want to keep your lawn nice and green.

You can jazz it up more by hanging some chimes (soo nice!), and encircling your veg patch with a very low, small wooden fence. I'm planning to do that too! You can set up a bird watering thing, birds will be happy to visit your garden - which makes it more alive with a happier atmosphere.
That's all I can think of, but I really hope I helped! xx

Honeysuckle ,smells nice too
Clematis, a little tacky though
Passion Flower, beautiful flower
Clematis is a good climber, go for the ervgreen variety for the all year round green look. Lift patio and dig up grass, replace with shingle or slate chippings.
honeysuckle..clematis... The honeysuckly will smell beautifully, the clematis looks lovely but is seasonal..sometimes coming out twice in one year...the roses look lovely but will need pruning as they grow fast and the passionflower is vey pretty but the plant goes wild in the summer but dies down in the autumn or winter.
This year, just fill your patio with lots of grow bags and grow stuff to eat. Next year plan a new garden. Your best bet with any changes to a garden is to wait until there's plenty of water in the soil, from September onwards. This makes digging easier. Get rid of the lawn patch thing and open up your back garden to grow food.
Try clematis also Russian vine looks good goes well . Winter flowering jasmine. Not really a climber is this but you can train it against a trellis and has the advantage of a little colour in the winter months .To jazz up your patio try a few large pots they dint have to be expensive and break the view up try osterpernums and Margarette's god Mediterranean effect .also a good climbing rose will look good . hope this helps .
green beans (pole)

temporally of coarse
OK.. your moldy old concrete patio... spray some clorox cleanup on it... let it sit, then scrub with a scrub brush screwed onto a mop or broom handle then hose it off. it will be sparkley clean. If you are still not happywith how it looks, Paint it with an outdoor concrete floor paint... a gallon of paint covers a lot of sin.then trim up the hedges, make a nice border for the garden by edging it by hand or with a weed-whacker. Throw some grass seed on the patch of lawn you have and keep it watered till it grows in then you can add a focal point to the lawn by getting a bird bath or chiminea for the center of the lawn and if you want, can add more importance to it by placing it on top of a square of stepping stone pavers.. 3x3 (make a square of 9 one foot square stepping stones)... instead of a trellis, try a couple of arborvaite planted to form a screen... but trellis is nice also, and then you can hang a bird house and feeders or wind chimes from it. for even more intrest.good luck with it...
