Snails??
Question:i have lots of snails in my yard why? what makes them go away?

Have you had a lot of rain lately? Moisture makes the snail eggs hatch. Here is a website with great tips for getting rid of them.
Home Depot or whatever hardware store you have over there will carry the product you need to get rid of them.
Because they love moisture and vegetation. Also these things reproduce often.
Each individual is capable of laying eggs once every six weeks from February to October (California), then approximately five ovipositions are made each year and 430 eggs laid.
When conditions in the garden are not condusive to eating or reproduction, they snail will glue over it's opening and remain dormant in the ground. When rain returns, so do they.
Once in a garden they are almost impossible to eradicate. You can use bails or even predatory snails that will eat the brown snail, but then the predatory snail becomes a nuisance.less than the brown snail, but still a plant muncher.
Reduce the foliage density, keep plants off the ground as much as possible..groundcovers are snail playgrounds. Allow sunlight in to help keep the garden drier. Use baits and traps. Finally, get a good pair of Wellington boots and when it rains, go out and stomp the suckers! While it may not dramatically reduce the population, it's a great stress reliever,(but does get slippery. ) Also they are edible....but not if you are putting out poisons. There are instructions on the web about cleaning them for a few days and then cooking. It's called revenge....

You probably need to check your yard for these types of places to see if you can eliminate some of their favorite hiding places.
They make a product called Sluggo
and a few others . I myself use beer is lids. That is safe for the kids and the pets.
The snail and slugs are attracted to stale beer and the crawl in and drown.

These pest are found on molds, decaying organic matter and on foliage of plants. They require large amounts of moisture to survive and prefer darkness. Mainly nocturnal, slugs and snails come out of their hiding places to feed in the evening.
Favorite hiding places for these pests are under old decaying boards and logs, in rock piles and beneath damp refuse such as leaves under plants.

I have a problem with snails. They do like the moisture and some of my favoriate perennial plants like bleeding heart. I tried using the beer in the cup method, but it's messy and I don't really like throwing out drowned snails. I now use a product by Ortho. They are small pellets that I sprinkle around the area where there's an infestation of snails. The snails eat the bait and die.
