What is the best way to keep Bamboo alive during the summer?

A little water ,ground cover to keep moisture in,and some type shade or sunscreen.you can buy at most nursery supplys.
bamboo is basically a weed--give it some water.--if you want it to be huge--give it some miracle grow food
Are we talking big, tropical bamboo like pandas eat or are we talking that little green plant that sits in a pot with some rocks and water?
If we are talking the first, it is a grass so a weekly watering and monthly dose of fertilizer will keep it happy.
If we are talking the second, it is actually a dracaena and I have no idea since I grow real bamboo.
