Anyone here have a green thumb?

Question:I have a tree that looks dead, but around the stump area there are green branches growing from it, what do I have to do, in order to make my dead tree turn green again? In other words, how do I revive a dead tree? ISomeone told me to cut off all the dead branches, but thats pretty much the upper half of the tree. The tree is not a big tree, think like the trees people plant in a new Home with a new yard.

Answers:
on the main part of the tree peel away a small area of the bark unto you come to the wood part if it is white or green in color then it is still alive if it looks brownish than its more then likely dead but yeah trimming away the dead stuff may help make room for the new stuff or just having the whole tree trimmed will promote new growth too, now is a good time to do this with spring still here and trees at their peek growing time of year, alo they sell growing fertilizer spikes that you shuve in the ground around your tress to help fertilize trees you can purchase them alsmst anywhere

yes, i too would cut down the old or dead parts of the tree, this will allow the new growth to grow. the energy will go to the new young off shouts . you may have to train the young shoots the way you want the tree to go, but you'll have a healthy new tree.
How long have you had it planted? The growth around the roots/stump are suckers.if there is no signs of life whatsoever on the main part of the tree, you might want to cut the main tree off and let the suckers grow. The sprouts are showing you that the roots are still alive, but apparently SOMETHING has caused the upper part to die...some kind of disease or damage to it. Maybe even weather conditions or shock.
Hi. Well like everything else living, you cannot "revive" it if its dead!

But judging from what you have described, it sounds like your tree has died back to the root and now its sending out new growth in the form of shoots. I have no idea what kind of tree you have, you didn't say, so I cannot recommend the proper pruning, but more than likely if you let the shoots grow up, the tree will take a more shrub like form.

I'm not sure if the trunk is dead without looking at it. If indeed the trunk of the tree is dead, then you will need to remove it. I would also wonder what killed it back? It may not be suited to your climate.

I guess what I'm saying is cutting the branches off the trunk will not solve your problem if the tree trunk is dead. It will not revive it or turn it back to green.
