How can i make my sunflowers grow extra big?

Question:Any tips for making my sunflowers grow to be world record beaters would be appreciated!

Answers:
They should be planted at least 30cm apart. I have some babies growing and I'll be splitting them up soon.

I use Spray n Grow on my plants, both inside and out. It fortifies the root system and therefore encourages them to grow very big. I bought mine from QVC a couple or years ago and I still have over one and half bottles left. You dilute well with warm water and feed your plants every two weeks or so. You can either spray it directly on the plants or water them with it. Try not to over fertilise as some plants can't take it. You can also get it on Ebay but can order it from QVC direct. It cost me £11 for two bottles plus p&p. Good stuff and it does last a long time.

Also, keep them well watered in the hot weather and try not to let the slugs and snails get to them because they just love the new sprouting leaves. You should also support them as they grow up.

Good luck and I'll expect to see them from my house!

water them with miracle grow once a week.
I planted mine in large tubs using compost this year as the snails usually get them. They are already 4 feet tall I'm hoping they will grow a lot more. Try plant food maybe?
Hi there!

You got to use mineral supplement and water them regularly and these plants need good amount of sunlight make sure you give that. check for any insects and pests in the soil also. the bigger the plant you want the bigger room you got to give its roots to grow so obviously you should not have any concrete beneath your soil.

Have you started off with a good variety like "Russian Giant" ? Then go for adequate space in good sunshine, lots of compost and moisture, and a good fertiliser and liquid feeds weekly. And tie it to a stake so that it does not blow over in the wind.
Personally I use Tomato Feed on all my flowering plants and they are the biggest in the neighbourhood.
Sunflowers need full sun; see 6-8 hours of direct sunlight per day—the more the better if you are trying to grow them to their maximum potential. Choose a well-drained location, and prepare your soil by digging an area of about 2-3 feet in circumference to a depth of about 2 feet. Sunflowers are heavy feeders and deplete the soil more than many other crops—especially if you are growing them to reach a massive height—so the nutrient supply must be replenished each season.
Work in a slow release granular fertilizer—one that also contains trace minerals-- about 8” deep into your soil.
Feed often and water regularly. While the plant is small, water around the root zone, about 3-4” from the plant with about 2 gallons of properly diluted liquid fertilizer solution per week. For larger plants, scrape out a small doughnut-shaped moat about 18 inches around the plant and about four inches deep. Pour several gallons of properly diluted fertilizer into the moat every week. Sunflower roots can grow to 4 feet below the soil surface. Avoid pouring fertilizer directly on the stems, since this can cause them to rot.
Another feeding method for larger plants is to make several holes by driving a steel stake into the ground about 3-4 feet deep and about 1½ feet from the plant. Fill the holes with properly diluted liquid fertilizer. Miracle Grow or Schulz’s growing solution, but if an organic gardener, you can use properly diluted fish emulsion or other liquid organic fertilizers.
Care for giant sunflowers as members of your family. Be attentive to weather reports, especially, as your plants become taller and more top-heavy. When heavy winds are predicted, delay watering to reduce their chances of blowing over. Staking isn’t usually necessary for sunflowers, but it can be helpful in extremely windy areas or if they must be grown in conditions that are too crowded or in too much shade.Good luck...
My guy and I planted our sunflowers during the end of the snow season, he thought that they would not grow, and he had started some in starters. needless to say, mine grew much bigger and had a larger stock on them then his did. They are over 5 ft tall now and growing real nice in full sun. I ve also gave them plant food and lots of water and they are doing fantastic.. so you have competition in the growing the biggest ones..
