When is the best time to water the lawn?

Question:How many times per week? If you water the lawn while its sunny out, can it burn the lawn easier?

Answers:
Early morning is best. The soil temperature is at it's lowest and this minimizes evaporation. That way, you get the most water to the roots.

BTW- water doesn't "burn" plants when you water mid day.. that's an old wives tale. Watering mid day does the least good, because the water evaporates the fastest when the temperature is highest and the sun shines down on it.

Water when your lawn NEEDS it. Turf grass needs about an inch of water per week. get a rain gage and keep track of the water.. over watering or watering every Tuesday does no good.. water when it's dry.

Evening or Early Morning is the best time
Before sun up is best, just at sundown is ok
As for burning the roots- water heats up and can scorch them that is true
2-3X per week should be enough
Morning is the best time. One to two hours prior to sunrise to avoid vaporation. Two to three times a week. A light five minutes maybe ten in the heat of the afternoon is good also. The saying of burning your lawn up if you water in the afternoon has always been overused without education the consumer. If you water in the afternoon with small amounts it has been proven to help cool the leave blades and soil which then cools the root system. Try to avoid watering past late afternoon or evening, due to this will promote fungis at times.
