There are some water purification tablets in Walmart in the sporting goods section that you put into your canteen when you go camping. They make any nonsalt water drinkable. Just dump you a bunch of those in there periodically and it should do the trick. If that doesn't work you might try going to a store that sells swimming pool chemicals and ask them. They should be able to tell you what would work.
Childrens pool chemicals. They are sold at all Wal Marts or retail store. In the pool chemical isle. They are made for childrens outside pools. Harmless. Good luck
