Answers:
Well first i hope you tought your dog to swim and I think that you have a great question so here is a great answer.
You can buy products for your pond that's not anything damaging to your dog i recommend Home Depot you can also put some purifier so its safe for your dog to drink but i don't recommend it that you leave him all alone outside unless its a big dog and a small pond. And lastly a dog drinks anything I have a big deep pool and my dog his name is Air Bud ( not the famous dog ) he is a Maltese and he'll jump in from time to time and he will drink the water so don't worry to much about that but first contact your local vet just to make sure its safe.

LATER!

They drink out of toilets and gutters. I'm pretty sure you can put any sort of pool or pond out there and they'll be ok.
Do not use any fetilizer around the grass that could drain into the pond. If fish can swim in it, it should be ok for the dogs. Depending on any water flow you may need to use some anti-alge chemicals occasionally. This kills some weeds and fungus.

A lanscaping store may be able to point you in the right direction for what you need. When you treat it they need to stay away for a week. Normally you only need to do this once a year.
