What is easiest way to root roses?
Question:
Answers:
Select a cane of new growth and cut the stem on a slant. Cut a little below a bud.
Remove the bud and all of the leaves. Splitting the stem helps develop more roots. If desired, dust rooting hormones on the cutting to speed the rooting process.
Place the cut stem in water or a 50/50 blend of potting soil/perlite that comes half way up its length.
Place in an area that is well lit but no direct sunlight and where temperature stays at approximately 70 degrees. Leave for 4 to 6 weeks, keeping it moist.
When roots develop, plant in a small pot (you can place the pot in a hole in your yard or garden where it is well sheltered).
When vigorous growth begins, transplant the rosebush in a permanent location.
Cut off about an 8" stem. Dust the bottom couple of inches with rooting hormone, you can find it at garden supply stores.
Put the end with the rooting hormone in the dirt in a sunny spot.
Cover the whole thing with a mayonnaise jar, or other large clear glass container.
Keep the soil damp.
Remove the jar when you seen new leaves appear.
My grandmother always used to cut it off right below the limb starts, and put it in fresh fertile soil, and water it daily and it always lived and turned out beautiful. Best of luck to you and yours!
