I want to put a turtle in my pond ?
Question:the pond is small, with lots of room around it to wonder (lots of sun and shaded areas). its not fenced in (only on two sides). would the turtle escape ? what kind of turtle is best for a pond ? will it harm the fish (goldfish/koi)? am i suppose to feed it ?
Answers:
Sounds good, but I think the turtle may wander off. Also he will definitely eat your fish.
Don't do it. Not if you want your koi to live and not be bothered with the smell. I have turtles and I have to feed them outside of their tank due to the smell if fed in tank. What goes in must come out so to speak. Plus unless you put up a small fence the turtle will wonder off.
Turtles eat fish. And plants. I have many many turtles in my backyard and it is a challenge keeping them out of my small pond. The only safe turtle for your pond is a plastic one!
Personally . I wouldnt do it . Although they re cute, They will eat your fish and feed on any pond plants you have growing
Turtles are amazing escape artists (digging and climbing), it would escape.
For a shallow pond, no turtle will work. They need very deep ponds so they can hibernate properly. Most turtle species get to be around 12 inches, and it doesn't sound like your pond is big enough for them, regardless of other constraints.
Yes, it will eat your fish and plants I wouldn't have a pond with a turtle unless it was at least 1000 gallons. That would be enough space for small fish to escape and for plants to grow before being eaten.
You would have to feed it vegetables.
Maybe consider a land turtle if you really want one out there? You'd still have to fence it deeply and provide soft soil hibernation.
