Why is my crepe myrtle tree shedding it's bark?

Question:I have a beautiful and very old crepe myrtle tree that was struck by lightening last summer. This year, it is still blooming and seemed to be doing great. Now, however, it's bark is molding and peeling away. Under the peeling bark are all these little mite looking things. Is it salvagable? Is it contagious? Help!

Answers:
Not to worry. I have two very large trees. 20ft at least. They shed the bark all the time. Usually in early and mid summer.
Not a problem at all.

Either it's suppose to, which I think is the better answer, or you have termites.
