What do i put my orchid in?

Question:i bought an orchid and it is in a plastic container full of bark chips. can i plant it in the dirt? what kind of soil do they like? i live in central florida so the dirt is sandy. what about sun and water?

Answers:
my mother has several orchids in hollowed out (whole, not halved) coconut husks. she hangs the husks from trees in the yard using twine or wire.

they are epiphytes

most of em live on the sides of trees, hence that bark

use bark, maybe alittle bit of other stuff
DO NOT PLANT IT IN DIRT you can buy bark at wal mart. Orchids like moisture, they do not like direct sun light once you find a place it likes do not move it they like to stay in one place. You can buy food for orchids do not let it sit in water the roots will rot and don't let water sit in between the leaves those too will rot. Don't worry if the roots start to show, I use clay pots I put big rocks in my tray under the clay pot so it will not sit in water. Good luck
