You should have no problem W/ coons in your beens. The only thing thay will keep coons out of your garden would be an electric fence put 4-5 inches off of the ground. I am very qualified to answer being I was a liscened aminal control Officer for 10 years in Illinois and Indiana and have raised most of my food in a garden for 20 years in the country in Illinois. I am surronded by woods and have a large coon population. A coon will tear thru or climb any thing u try and could use in a garden. I hope this will help you out. Sharing with the creatures is very nice. If not then put up a fence, netting can cause too many injuries when the birds or creatures get tangled up and try to get out.
Racoon's are very clever to get what they want with their tiny little hands, so I really don't think a net will be of any help. You might want to try some animal repellents around the perimeter of the garden. But don't use any of these repellents around the vegetables. There are several on the market. Good luck.
The only thing in my garden the raccoons bothered was the corn. They did how ever raid my bird feeder, corn in there too also sunflower seeds. Unless their starving you shouldn't have a problem.
Ask your local agricultural establishment if they have Fox urine. This will deter racoons, rabbits, squirells, etc.
