I Accidentally spilled Gasoline on some Bushes and Tree trunks. Will this kill them?
Question:I don't want them to Die, but a friend told me that Gasoline will kill them. Is this true or is there a way to save them?
Answers:
Gas is a pretty harsh. Try rinsing them off with lots of water.
flush with water and lots of it ASAP. yes, the gasoline will damage your plants. make sure that the water doesn't go down a drain though
Absolutely! Run lots of water on them.. NOW! it might help.. and then again, it might not... depending on how much gas you spilled on them.
Bushes may die depending on kind. I would suggest pulling of the leaves that where in contact with the gas. This will help the plant from absorbing any. As for the tree, it should be fine.
It depends how much gasoline and how mature your plants are. What I would do if I were you is a bit of a long shot but under the circumsatnces there are not a whole lot of options. Gasoline is to plants like cyanide is to people, which is like kryptonite to Superman, which is like a mother's love to He Who Must Not Be Named. I would suggest you just soak the @#$%^&* out of your plants to try to flush out the gasoline. But you will probably have to get new soil and plant new plants. Try to get in touch with someone local to see if they can help you. You can check out www.1800TOPSOIL.com or call 1-800-TOPSOIL to see if they service your area. They're national and very professional. Good luck!
Leaves=dead trunk=maybe not
It probably will kill them depending on the amount that you spilled. The ideal way to fix this problem would be to have the soil exchanged with new and fresh soil. If the bushes are young enough and small enough...you may be able to uproot them and rinse the roots, then replant. Do this very gently!
The other option is to literally flush the soil with fresh water. Just turn on the hose and leave it in the area for at least an hour. Of course, you are basically just pushing the gasoline to another area, but at least you are diluting it.
Good luck and for best results start doing something now. The more time that the roots have a chance so absorb the gas, the less time you have before they start dying. There may also be a Ph balancer that you can by at most farm and home stores. You will need to add this to the soil after you have done something to flush out the gas.
Good Luck
You should try clipping the leaves and the branches that were affected and rinse with a lot of water. If you spilled a lot on them they are as good as dead.
Flush with tons of water as soon as possible
