How much sun for tomatoes?
Question:I live in the city. My small yard receives a lot of shade from neighboring trees & buildings. I have two tomato plants in containers, so I can move them around, but I'd rather not have to do this too many times a day!
My question is this: how many hours of direct sunlight do tomatoes need to mature properly? I have one plum type and one cherry type.
Answers:
You should be safe and get decent yield from them if they get at least 6 hours of sunlight. Another factor can be what hours of sun they get too ... My personal opinion would be get the most of the mid day sun you can. So I would say optimal timing would be if they can start getting sun about 10 am. I have had much success growing with diffused mid day and afternoon sun.
As much as possible.
Hello
Full sun is best but you can get away with 4-5 hours of direct sun. You can also increase your yield setting the soil up correctly. Tomatoe's like a sweet soil so dolomitic lime would help them, because for blossom set (when the yellow flowers fall off at before finishing blooming) if so you need more son or a blossom set spray.

Full sun.
Full sun if possible. Just find the place in your yard where they will get the most sun for your conditions, preferably afternoon sun. I wouldn't worry about moving the plants around the yard. Just leave them in one place. They should do fine.
Good Luck!
