It depends on what type of the plant you have & some of them they need sunlight. Normally we water the plant about three times a week.
There's not enough information in your question.
The climate you live in is important.
The type of plants you have is important.
How can anyone answer you properly without knowing this.
A general rule is to water plants once per week.
I'd say twice a week!

it depends on what type of plants you have...some love lots of sun while others dont like much at all..if the leaves are turning yellow its a sign your over watering them...if the leaves are brown and in the sun..its a sign their getting too much sun and heat...droopy leaves are a sign they need more water..look the names of your plants up online and the sites for differant types of plants will have all the info you need...good luck..p.s. also you might need to check the soil and see if theres tiny webs..you might have mites in the soil..and or you might need to add some plant food...make sure you read about each typpe of plant and get what each one needs and how much
Lots of difficulties with watering. The size of the plants root ball, how big is it. You can't see it. Optimally you want to give the plant enough water so that the moist soil is a little larger that the rootball. This encourages the roots to grow into the moisture. The root ball gets bigger and the water "resevior the plant has to draw from gets bigger. As a plant gets established you usually have to water it less.
You seem to have question about potted plants some of the principals are the same but potted plants can get root bound and there is no soil around the roots to hold water for the plant to reach and you need to repot the plant. Soil in pots can get so dry water will actually roll off of them. Place the pot in a pan of water and allow the water to wick up. You can also water the top. Water the plant more often.
Differnet plants have different watering and light needs. Never take a plant that is use to low light and set it in the sun for to long. You can quickly water low light plants in full sun but move them back to where they came from. If the plants is needing more light then slowly increse the plants light. I'm currently reading an excellent book that goes into more detail about your question. "Indoor gardening the organic way" by julie bawden-davis. I bought it at amazon.
Stick your finger in the soil and if it feels dry water the plant. If you stick your finger in the soil and it feels moist don't water the plant.
