Question:willow oak tree, 18 yrs. old and 20 in. in diameter. a small hole about 1/4 of in. round. I noticed the hole was still bleeding and i put a pine straw needle in the hole and the whole needle went in. what can i do?

Answers:
Sapsuckers can drill holes that go fairly deep. They feed on the sap that runs out. Usually the bird will return to drill more holes in the same area, in nice straight lines. I suggest you watch the tree for more holes. Could be a woodpecker as well.
