Best way to rid new garden bringing unwanted guests.?

Question:Recently my mother started a small garden in the corner of our patio. Lately we've been noticing more and more flies(?) in the patio and such. We're guessing this is due to the plants & was wondering the best possibley eco friendly way to rid said guests from our patio. Thank you :]

Answers:
Plants don't attract flies, unless they are dead. Look for the things that attract flies like uncovered garbage cans, pet feces, standing water, etc.

You might want to check the soil where the flowers are. There may be bacteria or fungus in the soil. I had stinky soil when I bought my house and I found out that the foundation materials came from the area bayous. The flies loved to hangout until I amended the soil.
s it a screened in patio? If it is you might have a small hole somewhere. If there's no garbage or anything like that around, it could be moisture. Flies need water too. During Desert Storm the Army made sure all the latrines and garbage were far away, 100 yards away. But the flies still came. We finally learned that they seek moisture too. That's why they swarm around eyes, lips, etc. Just a hunch.
Try planting flowers such as marigolds they give off a smell and keep thing away , but really it is time of year when it gets hotter they seem to go away Try putting up a bug zapper they work great inday too. good luck and rember they like good smelly soil so be careful try some mulch
