What time of year do you transplant poppies?

Question:I have oriental poppies. Need to move them to a different area. What time of the year would I need to transplant them?? Please help!!

Answers:
Oriental poppies do not usually transplant well. Hate having their roots disturbed.
Wait untill after they bloom, let them rippen and save the seeds. Plant them where you want the new plants.

If you really want to transplant wait untill you collect the seed and dig deep. Long taproot. Do not disturb the soil any more than needed.
Use some kelp, or superthrive when you plant them. Later in the fall if you can.

good luck.

most of u'r transplants for anything should come in the Spring or Early Fall... if u do it now, w/ the heat, it may not make it except poss. poppies.. they seem to take over...

But i wait til then & make sure when u do, u get all the roots & use B1 to help germinate the roots to the soil.
It is usually best to transplant poppies in late Aug or early Oct. If you do move them you need to dig as deep as you can as they have a very fleshy deep tap root system that is sometimes hard to move. Too deep. If you are planting new ones spring is suggested.
I might suggest to you that saving the seeds and starting new plants might be a good way to go
