A hedgehog has spikes on its back, lika a porcupine, only much shorter. A groundhog is much bigger and is all fur.
A hedge hog has quills and can roll in a ball. Unlike a hedge hog, a groundhog tells the weather, and can not roll in a ball and does not have quills.

much, kind of like comparing a house cat to a pole cat! one is domesticated the other is a skunk. they may be distant relatives (very distant) but he only thing they have in common is a shared name ending (hog). Ground hogs burrow holes through lawns eating roots and plants, there fat and squat, and about 5 to 15 lbs. A hedgehog, lives in hedges, tight underbrush, and have pokey like fur, they never get over a pound in weight. some like them as pets like a gerbil or hamster, but I've never heard of having a groundhog as a pet, they need alot of space to do there constant burrowing.
A hedgehog looks like a little porcupine. Eats insects, worms, and it nocturnal, can be a gardeners best friend.
A ground hog is a rodent that has mainly a vegetable, plant diet, not a gardeners friend.
