How can I grew better herbs in my garden?

Question:I have tried several way's of growing herbs now in my garden. None of which I have been very successful in yet. Can any one who is an herb lover tell me what I must do to successfully grew herbs? For any wise idea , I'll be happy. Sofar, I am only lucky with Chives and Rosmary.

Answers:
Try growing them in containers. That way you can regulate the water content of the soil easier. Herbs are general very fragile and will die with too much water.

I usually keep the herbs in containers for two or three years, until they are well established, then set them in the ground.

Good luck! Herbs are hard! Except for basil and mint. Plant mint and they'll take over your yard!

your soil may be to dense, mix in well some sand, densce soil does not allow the herbs to grow, they are delicate plants.

Start most HErbs indoors, spread seeds in a damp towel, in moderate light, kep dfamp, after a few days they shuld srout, transfer to small paper cups , and cover (roots) with just enough sil, do not pack tight. after a few weeks when herbs are 2 to 3 inches, transfer to out side.

Herbs need special treatment as a rule, that is one reason why they are not mass produced like corn or potatoes, they take a little extra care. There great indoor or enclosed porch plants, and grow best that way.

good luck.
not a specific answer, but a couple of points to consider-

1- Herbs need full sun.

2- the soil needs to have some organic and nutritive content (fertilizer).

3- you might try container growing them. I have herbs in containers on my patio and they do nicely. Buy a good potting mix (like pro-mix or an equivalent) and feed them with miracle gro weekly. I have oregano, cilantro (until it gets too warm) and thyme, all in 12" pots..

Good luck!
have a look at http://www.enjoyherbs.com , this site is all about the cultivation of herbs
