My 71 widowed mother in law needs a new riding lawn mower. Which brand/kind would be the best for her?
Question:She bought an expensive John Deere about 10 years ago and has had problems ever since. Has spent $$$$ in repairs over the years. Needs something reliable.
Answers:
Why don't you or her son mow the lawn for her? That would be a nice gesture for an elderly lady.
We bought the largest, most expensive one from Sears, a lawn and garden model and we have been regretting it since. It has had nothing but problems, if you leave it sit for a week without starting it, it will not start. Has been serviced many times and now the extended warranty is over and it doesn't work. Has less than 100 hours on it.
I'm surprised to hear you have had problems with the John Deere. We have had them in the past and they were fantastic, although expensive new or used. You might try talking to the John Deere dealer and explaining the history on the unit to see if they will do anything to remedy the situation. They rely greatly on reputation.
Cub Cadet, Husqvarna and Ariens are all supposed to be really good brands. Here's a site I found with some reviews of different brands and models. http://www.abbysguide.com/lawn-mower/gui...
Best of luck!
If she is 71, tell her it is cheaper to have someone else mow the lawn. If she pays $200-$300 for the season, that is roughly $2500 over the next 10 years. That is about the price of a typical rider mower.
If the Immigration Amnesty goes through, she may be able to get her yard mowed for 10 bucks!!
NONE, what she needs is a 16 yr old neighbor boy to mow it for her. And you pay for it. Good Grief.
My suggestion would be a Simplicity, or Snapper. Their lawn tractors are built by Simplicity, and they are very will built. A Simplicity Regent has an 18 HP engine and a 38" deck for $1999. Check out http://www.simplicity.com or htttp://www.snapper.com for the dealer near you.
